Mongols and Aztec Economics
The mongols had potential for a very large economic empire. They had most of the land across the steppes which meant they controled a large portion of the silk road. However, they were a warlike people and were sloppy administrators. And before they could get control of their enormous empire, regions were already leaving the empire. This started around the mongol empires peak in the late 1200s. When the leader of this empire died, Genghis Khan, the empire split up into smaller empires. Tamerlane, a descendent of Genghis Khan, tried to unite the empire again. When he conqured a region, he brought back the best administrators to administrate his empire. However, it didn't stabalize the empires economics enough to continue it.
The Aztecs were different than the Mongols. They had huge market places that were arranged by type of product. Besides the immense number products, the also had slaves. When you combine all the products , you would have to be their a few days to see it all. To make sure their products were the best they could be, people inspected them. This immense market brought the Aztecs up to be very rich. Like the Mongols, they had a hard time with large scale trading, because there weren't any other large empires near them.
